Big Brothers Big Sisters
of Northwest Georgia Mountains
serving Whitfield, Murray and Forsyth Counties
Our Mission
Big Brothers Big Sisters of North West Georgia Mountains exists to assist youth, primarily in single parent homes, in developing their potential by providing healthy relationships through volunteer adult friends, professionally supervising these friendships while offering additional education and support services.
Agency Background
The program began in Whitfield and Murray Counties in September of 1969 serving local boys with adult male mentors. In the mid 1970’s the program began matching girls with Big Sisters and today serves over 1200 children annually with mentors in the community and in the schools. The fastest growing segment of the program is the in-school mentoring service provided in 37 area schools and called the Buddy Program. In the fall of 2002 a third county, Forsyth, was added and began serving children in the traditional Big and Little program. By the end of 2003 this thriving program will have 50 matches and anticipates adding another 50 during the year 2004.
